Purchase: I have been riding my Icelandic Horses strictly in an English Dressage Icelandic saddle for the past six years. Due to a couple of falls this past winter, I figured it was time for this old lady to get herself into a western, more secure saddle! But what fits a little, short backed, gaited Icelandic?? I was told by a worker at the local tack shop to come and check out a pretty saddle that was marked for gaited horses. So I thought it wouldn't hurt. I took the saddle home, against my better judgement, as I really didn't want to spend a lot of money on another saddle. Well, the saddle couldn't have fit more perfect than if I had placed the order myself. It fits perfectly at the withers and sits well back off of the shoulder to let my horse gait properly. The rounded skirt is short enough so not to sit on his rump. Also when I took the saddle off after riding for over an hour, there were absolutely no pressure points! My horse and I decided right then and there that it was a keeper.
Likes: The saddle is well made with an extra comfy deep seat so I feel extra secure and sit in perfect alignment without any effort what-so-ever. The stirrups are already turned which provides easy of entry and comfort on the trail. There are many rings all over the saddle for tying all the extras you may want to take with you. It is tooled beautifully with a leaf and acorn design and the really best thing is that it feels pretty light when lifting up on his back.
Dislikes: I have not found anything that I don't like about it so far!
Quality: The saddle is made of quality leather and tooled to perfection. It appears to be reinforced at critical points with extra heavy duty stainless steel screws that in no way touch the horse. Even not being an expect on construction, I can just tell it is well made and of good quality.
Summary: I am truly in love with this fine quality gaited saddle. Never did I think I could find a Western saddle that would fit my Icelandic so perfectly and be light enough for both him and I. I love the way I sit and ride in it and would recommend it highly to anyone looking for a gaited saddle.
