Purchase: I purchased this pad online through Winters Distributing (Talena Winters)last fall for about $180.00. I did research on pads first, particularly wool pads and decided to go for the top of the line!
Just seems like natural fibers are the way to go.
Likes: Obviously high quality wool. It's a good idea to educate yourself on the grades of wool felt and look at latest research on pads.I got the cream color wool with chestnut brown leather. It comes with a special sponge to clean hair and dirt off the wool and I clean it every time I ride.
Contour pads are the way to go. Why buy something stiff and straight for a horse's back?
Dislikes: The first pad I ordered rubbed a small hairless spot on my mare ,2nd ride. I couldn't see a defect on pad. Also, the contour of the pad made the back of it stick up in the air, didn't lie flat on her back.Took pictures of pad and my mares back and sent the to the company and Talena. They took the pad back and sent another.Excellent customer service, thanks, guys! Requested "mule contour" cut on the second pad and it fits her perfectly, no more problems.Keeps her back drier and cooler.She is a Tennessee Walker.
Quality: The pad is 2 halves sewn together. It is an attractive ,well made wool felt pad with high quality leather spine piece and wear leathers.
Summary: I would buy this again, and recommend it to my friends.I have never spent this much on a pad before but you get what you pay for!!and it will last me for a while.With the regular cleaning I give it , it stays looking great.
