Purchase: I bought this helmet at a local western store for $64, although I ride english. Its profile and appearance is acceptable for either discipline.
Likes: I like that the helmet is good for any way you ride, basically, for schooling. I wore it to my first hunter/jumper schooling show and did not have any problems with the scoring from its appearance. I have also enjoyed that this helmet has the "dial fit" system. Some people prefer a helmet which fits perfectly from when you first put it on, but I think the dial is necessary, because I can adjust it as needed until it fits properly. I would like to add that this is very handy for a child's growing head. I also know you aren't supposed to ever wear a helmet you have fallen in, but I have had a few minor falls with this helmet and it has no visible damage to it besides a couple of scratches. The harness is also in great shape after nearly 4 years. It is ASTM and SEI certified, too.
Dislikes: I dislike that on the inside of the helmet box it says if you need to return the helmet, to please follow the instructions in the enclosed booklet. There was no booklet in my helmet box. However, I believe this could be due to the store I bought it from, and not IRH. When at the show I mentioned earlier, it sort of made my head look big when my hair was pulled back.
Quality: The quality of the helmet is fair if not great! Like I said, I've had multiple very minor falls and there is no breaking of the outer shell and virtually no visible damage. This was not a pricey helmet, and would be good for someone on a tight budget where they're not willing to replace the helmet after each fall. As mentioned earlier, I have not had any problems with the harness or dial, either.
Summary: This helmet was my first, so I don't have much to compare it to, but I have not found many things to dislike about it. It has protected me and not worn out, although I am sure to need a new helmet soon after falling a few times. I rate it a 5, since the only problems were a small appearance issue and the fact that no booklet came with the unit I purchased.
Usefulness Rating: 3 out of 5.
