Purchase: I love the Stubben Roxane VSS which I have owned for 8 years - since 1997. This saddle was purchased new from Libertyville Saddle Shop for approx. $1,300. I am a big fan of Stubben -- this is my second model. My saddle is a 17.5 inch seat with 31 cm tree width. The tree fits most Thoroughbreds, excluding a very high-withered horse recently purchased.
Likes: The Roxanne VSS is a relatively deep seat model, with moderate forward flap. It is a superb trail riding saddle -- I have put thousands of miles on this saddle in three states, including mountains, streams and rigorous hill riding in my own area -- on very hot Thoroughbreds. The saddle is perfectly balanced, perfectly comfortable. This is a saddle that you are oblivous to while riding ....the very best situation. I also trained for eventing in this saddle (horse was too ballistic - kicked out of 2 programs.) So the saddle is obviously an 'easy ride'. Although a secure seat, you are not stuck in one position -- lots of movement.
Dislikes: There is nothing I don't like about the saddle.
Quality: Superb construction, balance, ergonomic fit. Holds excellent value. I am now looking at second saddles, and find my Roxane is one of the saddles best holding its value. An excellent investment.
Summary: Stubben makes a suberb saddle in a wide array of styles. Any rider can find the correct model best-suited for his riding style.
