Category: Barrel Saddles

Purchase: I purchased the used saddle from ebay for $780.00 after doing much research on treeless saddles and how they fit most horses and are very comfortable for the rider.

Likes: The leather is of good quality, and the saddle looks great. The saddle is very lightweight and easy to lift onto my horse. I enjoy the way you can feel the horse under saddle. I have ridden hours in this saddle without being a bit sore. The saddle has a barrel type seat that really holds you in place for some wild rides or severe spooks. The stirrups are comfortable and my hips and legs don't get sore. The resale value of the saddle is good also.

Dislikes: As much as I love the saddle for me, my horse hates it! He developed a severe attitude about having the saddle put on him. He now has a pull back problem and has taken out 2 hitching posts due to this saddle. He basically throws it off his back the minute I place it on him, spooks and pulls back. He has been off on both sides after a 10 mile ride. His shoulders are sore because the saddle is cutting into them. The saddle does not have a tree to protect the spinal area or take pressure off the shoulder. I use a skito pad and weigh 120lbs. I have not placed the saddle too far forward. I finally found an equine chiropractor who is getting my horse back in shape, but he said to get rid of the saddle. He told me that he recently had a barrel racing horse have the same problen with the same type saddle. The horse would not extend his legs to circle the barrels. I have gone back to a saddle with a tree and my horse is better.

Quality: Great solid construction but needs a tree to eliminate pressure.

Summary: The bottom line is who needs a saddle that your horse hates! I should have listened to my horse rather than the great reviews of the treeless saddle.
