Purchase: These boots went for $199 at Dover. I actually did not end up buying the Quantums and instead went with my tried and true Cobalt Devon's (last year's model), on sale at Dover for $129
Likes: The only thing I liked about the Quantums were that they looked like the Cobalts (both the Devon line). Overall, the Devon line is great because of the zip-up easy wear and the super comfortable footbeds.
Dislikes: The Devon Quantum Pros have a NEW footbed in them, which doesn't sit under my foot the same way the old ones did. I have been buying Ariat paddock boots since 1994, and I can honestly say that if these new footbeds are here to stay, Ariat has lost me as a customer. The arch is too high on the outside of my feet and it feels like I am walking on a lump. My plan is to buy up as many Devon COBALTs as I can and stock up!!
Quality: The Devons are the top of the line Ariat paddock boot. I have been buying Devons for years, using them as my all-in-one: riding, mucking, bathing the horses, whatever, and they last 2-3 years depending on how badly I beat them up. The Cobalts are the most comfortable thing I've ever worn. I used to teach riding lessons so being on my feet for 8+ hours was tough if you didn't have a boot like the Cobalt.
Summary: Ariat needs to examine the impact of its new footbed on its customers. I am apparently not the only one that has had these types of comments on their "new and improved" footbed. I really hope Ariat changes them back or modifies them for next year's models.
