Dressage Saddles

Manufacturer: Wintec
Model: 500 Dressage
Category: Dressage Saddles

Purchase: I bought this saddle in July 2006 from a tack shop in NC for $400.

Likes: I liked that it was synthetic leather, had an adjustable gullet system, and cheap. I've ridden in this saddle an average of 2-3 times a week for the past 3.5 yrs. It cleans up easily with a wet rag.

Dislikes: Even though this saddle didn't cost much, I expected it to last longer. After only having it for a yr and a half, I noticed small cracks starting in the girth straps at the holes where my girth fastened, like it couldn't hold up to the stress. After having the saddle for 3 years, I noticed the billet was starting to crack along the stitching, at the bottom of the flap (the part covered by your leg). The seam itself wasn't coming apart, it was cracking where the stitching went into it.

Quality: Overall I've been happy with the design of the saddle. I've been able to change the tree size twice over the past 3.5 yrs as my quarter horse has matured & filled out so it's grown with him. I lived in NC for the first 1.5 yrs and then to desert AZ for the past 2 yrs. Since it's synthetic material, there's no way to condition it against the dry climate so perhaps that was a factor in the cracks.

Summary: For someone with a limited budget or someone who expects to need an adjustable tree, I'd recommend this saddle, as long as they know it won't last 10 yrs.
