7365M Tall Boot
English Chaps/Boots/Helmets
Manufacturer: Regent
Model: 7365M Tall Boot
Category: English Chaps/Boots/Helmets
Purchase: I paid $75 for these at Columbia River Tack Supply. They had been used once or twice before being placed on consignment. The price new for these is somewhere in the ball park of $300. Unfortunately, I don't know why they were on consignment.
Likes: The boots broke in very quickly. They are also hard shells, so they keep their shape very well and also have a different feel against the horse. The harder shell definitely makes it much easier to keep the proper leg position against the horse and apply the leg aids without having to turn your heels in and up. I don't even reach for my paddock boots and half chaps anymore. Instead I reach for boot pulls and these. The leather quality is also very good and the boots have a nice, professional shape. The medium calf fit me (very surprising since I have hard to fit calfs normally) and they also didn't have too much extra room to drop, even though I am a petite rider (5'1/ 5'2 on a good day lol). They look just as good as my dressage instructor's boots she paid $800 for custom made, although hers do fit her perfectly.
Dislikes: Well, breaking them in was wretched. But I think that is true for any hard shell boot. The fit could be better, but that's my fault: they were close enough and in my price range, so it had to be that way. Now that they are broken in, I don't walk around in them because it is uncomfortable for me to do so, instead I just put them on when I am going to ride. They do seem to scuff easily, but nothing that black shoe polish can't fix.
Quality: The leather is really nice and good quality. The boots have good stitching, broke in fairly quick, and look very professional. They scuff easily, as mentioned above.
Summary: These boots will last me a very long time, even with me putting in hours in them. They broke in fairly quickly (about a week) and are very comfortable to ride in. They offer a different feel than a thinner boot or half chaps, but it is more secure feeling and also offers a better channel of communication. The leather quality is also good English leather, and is soft and cleans up really nicely. Definitely is more comparable in quality to a higher end custom boot than to the lower end Ovation, Ariat, etc. brands.
