Purchase: My parents bought me this saddle for $400 at Tack Room Too in Olympia, WA in Dec. 1999 for Christmas that year.
Likes: This saddle has a wide (32 cm) tree that has fit almost any horse I have ridden in it. I also really appreciate that it doesn't have knee rolls or blocks at all, because I don't like feeling constricted while I am jumping. It has proven to be highly durable, and has been very cost effective, needing repair work done very sparingly (all normal wear and tear, see the quality description for more on this). I also really appreciate the nice design and aesthetic value this saddle has- it is very rare to find a saddle with as beautiful a color as this one has. It is more like a stained finish rather than a painted on color, so there isn't too much color loss in the area the leathers go.
Dislikes: It doesn't fit my horse since we started combined training and he got new muscles in his back he previously didn't have there. It does, however, fit all the other horses that I currently ride. I also don't have two of them.
Quality: I have literally abused this saddle- but it still holds up. The tree is 100% sound and the saddle still looks good enough for shows even though it has been flipped on, dropped, rolled over, rained on, etc., and is over 20 years old. In the ten years I have had it, I have only had it reflocked once, and the original billets were only replaced just a couple years ago. None of the original stitching has come loose and the saddle has kept its form very well, but the stitching is worn out on the flap where it makes contact with the riders leg- all part of normal wear.
Summary: This is a very good saddle, and is very comfortable to both jump in and do flat work in. Aesthetically, it makes a very nice show saddle, and the quality and workmanship are superb.
Usefulness Rating: 2.86364 out of 5.
