Purchase: I ordered this saddle pad from my local tack store and paid $230.00 Canadian for it. I was actually looking for a new saddle but wasn't sure I could afford one, so this pad was a happy medium for me and my gelding. I had problem with my saddle riding forward down the steep trails I was riding and the no slip side of this pad is that made me buy it. As well as the deep memory foam that would no doubt be nice for my horse!
Likes: I ride with the wool side up against the bottom of my saddle and the no slip on my horse. I like that there are lots of little air holes in this pad so I know he won't get any heat scald or discomfort from the synthetic. I also really like the gullet on the spinal area of the pad as it completely relieves any pressure from the gullet of the saddle (although my saddle does fit well, this keeps the pad from slipping down and tightening on his back). For a well fitting saddle, this pad seems to amplify all the positives and really is of great comfort to my horse. I can tell a different in him since using it.
Dislikes: There isn't much I don't like about this saddle. In fact I'm buying a lighter, leaner trail saddle and I will be investing in another Cavallo Tucker shaped pad for my second saddle. (Buying a Wintec Pro Stock with Swinging Fenders). One thing I have found with this saddle pad is it does make my horse sweat a lot. That said, I don't really mind if he sweats as it's always even and there are little dappled spots from the wholes in the saddle where the ventilation gets through. He has never had heat scald or any rubbing he just sweats more than with other pads. I assume this is because the synthetic side doesn't absorb his sweat so it just runs down the sides.
Quality: Excellent construction! I have used this saddle pad exclusively for a year and no wear or scratches anywhere on it. I just hose it off when I'm done. One note is that is must be stored on top of your saddle or the memory foam will take the shape of your saddle stand.
Summary: Excellent, very happy, well worth the $200+ I paid for it. Satisfied enough that I will buy this same brand in a different shape for my new saddle! Horse and rider approved. I have tried other pads (like the Professional's Choice air ride) and this pad is far superior.
