I have been playing musical girths for my new mule for the last 3 months. Every single girth that I have used (with a combination of several different saddles) has galled or sored him. No matter what style of rigging we have used, or what position the girth is placed in, he is super sensitive. A 35 minute ride is all it takes for him to get sores.
I was in Jeffers with my farrier and asked her which girth from the catalog she would suggest. We saw that the AirFlex was a new addition, and she said to ask for one to be sent up for us to look at.
Likes: The moment we put our hands on it, we knew this was the one. It's texture and feel is unlike any girth I have had (and I have them all, leather, mohair, horsehair, neoprene, fleece, packer's cinchas). The white cool flex foam spreads out past the top edge of the girth, so it rolls over and keeps the girth area from touching anything but the foam. This is great for my mule with all of his extra folds of skin.
The air channels are great too, they allow for just enough air flow to keep him from sweating too much, but enough sweat to lubricate the girth area and keep him from galling.
I rode 6 times that weekend, from 1-3 hour rides each time and he wasn't even swollen in the girth area.
I love that the underside is white, you can see any debris or dirt that needs to be cleaned from the surface.
Dislikes: Nothing...this is the perfect girth for my mule.
Quality: Looks to be well constructed. I have not had it long enough to know how it will stand up.
Summary: This is a brilliant girth that has ended my trail riding woes.
