PRS Saddle Pad - Felt Top & Bottom
Western Saddle Fittings/Pads

Manufacturer: DownUnder Horsemanship
Model: PRS Saddle Pad - Felt Top & Bottom
Category: Western Saddle Fittings/Pads

Purchase: I am a member of Clinton Anderson's "No Worries Club" and purchased the Clinton Anderson "Aussie Saddle" last year for my husband's horse who is hard to fit. The saddle fits MY horse fine but I was still having issues with getting the saddle to stay put on HubbyHorse. I finally bit the bullet and purchased a PRS pad for HubbyHorse. The one I ordered has the black felt top and felt bottom (the pad comes with either a felt or leather top and can be configured with either a foam or felt bottom). Not only is the felt version less expensive, but it's lower-maintenance than the more expensive, leather-topped one - just hose it off & hang it up to dry between rides. The pad retails for $249.99 but for No Worries Club members it is $212.49. (I highly recommend the club membership too - discounts on DUH merchandise, 8 DVD's and 4 "Journal" magazines per year, and a terrific website with all the TV show episodes available in streaming video among MANY other useful features). And the club members are a great group of horse lovers from "novice" to "expert" - with everyone helping each other on every topic imaginable on the club "Forum."

Likes: In addition to the ease of maintenance, the PRS pad made a tremendous improvement in the way the Clinton Anderson saddle fits both of our horses, especially the hard-to-fit one. The workmanship is top-quality and the felt seems to be a higher grade than my other felt pads. The pad has "indents" making it thinner where the front of the saddle bars rest, giving the horse more freedom in its front end. The "indents" also seem to keep the saddle in the desired position. And I'm sure the pad is not being pressed down, by the saddle, into the flesh behind the horse's shoulder blade like it was before.

Dislikes: The only thing I don't like is that I didn't buy it SOONER, before wasting $$$ on several other pads including some that were highly touted and quite "spendy."

Quality: I have not purchased a product from DownUnder Horsemanship that was of anything other than first-class quality. And the PRS pad is no exception. I wrote to DUH recently and suggested that the show more photos of it on their website. I don't believe the pictures they currently have there do it justice. The design is unique in that it provides a completely clear "channel" all along the horse's spine. When the pad is placed on the horse's back it provides superior wither clearance as well as clearance BEHIND the saddle so there is no rubbing under the skirts of the saddle. I worried about whether the stitching might come out but other club members who have owned the pad for a long time have assured me that their pads are holding up extremely well.

Summary: This is simply the pad of my dreams. And I think if you were to ask my horses, they'd say the same thing. My current goal is to have a CA saddle and PRS pad for EACH horse, and then to have a HUGE tack sale & bonfire for the rest of the junk on which I've wasted $$$ over the years.
