Purchase: I was having problems fitting my horses and myself to a good saddle. I had a chiropractor adjust my horses and they all had problems. I asked him to check my saddles and they had twisted trees. These were not cheap saddles and came from big name companies. So I did some research and decided on a JJ Maxwell saddle. I contacted JJ Maxwell and got information on the different saddles and options. My husband's response was not another saddle as I've owned over 30 saddles. The basic Weatherly is $2200. I added several features and it ended up $3100.
Likes: I have 3 gaited horses and using the fiberglass trees supplied by JJ Maxwell I was surprised that all of them used the same tree. I have a problem with prominent bones in my seat. Joe customized the seat so I don't feel my bones when I'm riding. The saddle has freed up my horses shoulders and they are gaiting great. I can ride all day and I don't get off stiff and aching.
Dislikes: The way the saddle is rigged I have more leather under my leg than I like. But it would not stop me from buying another.
Quality: I live in Nevada and made a trip to Anderson to check out the leather shop. The material was top quality and they are very fussy with the saddle not having imperfections. They make a beautiful product and I have people commenting on how nice my saddle is constantly.
Summary: The customer service was great. I changed my mine a couple of times on what I wanted on the saddle. I even changed from a Hope to a Weatherly and they just took it in stride. JJ Maxwell has been making saddles along time and it is a family business. They are proud of what they produce and I'm proud using it.
