Purchase: Slightly used (1 rider had it for a week); paid $1000.00 at Tack Room Inc. They had sent it out for a test ride and it came back.
Likes: I had ridden in one of these saddles with the flaps on a school horse and fell in love with it. I hate padded flaps; always have and I have to say that his is THE best saddle I have ever owned. I have had this saddle now for 10 years and other than some minor marking on the flap from the leathers and a few rub marks on the seat, this saddle is pristine. I've used it for equitation, hunter/jumper and lower dressage levels; a very versatile saddle.
Dislikes: Nothing
Quality: Excellent. The flaps and overall saddle wear very well with standard leather care. The only thing I have had restitched are a couple of the billet straps. They weren't in danger of separating but it looked like the stitching was getting a little worn.
Summary: This same version is available now under the name Excel H and the user has the option of ordering the plain or padded flap. If I had to replace the one I have, I would buy the same one with no regrets.
