Purchase: I purchased these half chaps from Dover Saddlery for $49.00 in order to have a back-up pair to my leather ones, which get a lot of use, and were beginning to wear out a bit. I wanted something inexpensive and useful. I ordered the black ones.
Likes: I've been using them for a couple of months now. I love that they are elasticized - which meant I could get them to fit my big 15 3/4" calves. They are breathable, lightweight, comfortable and offer a nice feel. I haven't yet attempted to wash them but I am looking forward to just popping them in the laundry with dirty saddle pads.
Dislikes: I have no real complaints. So far, they have met my needs: they were inexpensive, they fit comfortably, they are easy to get on and take off, and they are practical.
Quality: The quality seems to be fairly good. I have had no problems with loose threads or loose stitching. The material is a sturdy suede-like synthetic. They are stretchy and move with you and they are light weight and breathable.
Summary: So far these seem like a pretty good value for schooling attire. I'd recommend them for any rider just starting out and on a budget, or for someone wanting half chaps for everyday schooling and trail riding. You don't have to soap and oil them, and you can keep your good tall leather boots for clinics and shows.
