Purchase: I bought this pad for trail riding. Paid $79.95 not including shipping at www.bestfriendequine.com
Likes: The color was a pretty pale light green. I liked the pockets; one for a water bottle, and the other an actual pocket to bring a snack or camera. The girth was nice too.
Dislikes: Too "poofy" for my taste. Might be good on a thin horse, but not ideal for wider horses since it just makes them seem even wider and makes it harder to hold on. Feels like you wrapped your horse in a down comforter. The edges of the saddle pad got caught under my knees when riding and made it feel like it was folding underneath me. Not idea for short legged people, I'm 5'4" and have an inseam of 32". The material is also very slick and soft so I didn't feel like it made me feel any more secure than riding without a bareback pad.
Quality: Soft like a blanket or a pillow. Not sure that it would hold up long on trail rides, but it might do ok in an arena. The girth is nicely made.
Summary: It might be good for someone with a thin horse that needs extra padding on the withers and spine. I wouldn't recommend using it on a horse that spooks often since the seat is slippery. Definitely not ideal for beginners to ride with.
I returned this pad and bought the Diamond Wool Suede Bareback Pad with the girth, and love it.
