Purchase: I purchased these stirrup irons from The Hitching Post online store for $200.
My knees and ankles aren't so great, and regular fillis irons cause me pain after about 20 minutes of riding. A friend recommended these stirrups. Originally I bought a cheaper knockoff, but those weren't so good. Finally, I broke down and bought the Herm Sprenger irons.
Likes: Wonderful irons!
They are extremely comfortable for me to ride in. By far the most comfortable English stirrup irons I've ever ridden in, and I've tried several! My knees don't hurt, and my ankles can find a comfortable position.
The way the stirrups flex is a bit difficult to describe, but it's actually quite stable. I was worried that I'd have to sacrifice my base of support, but they feel sturdy to ride in. When you put direct downward pressure on the stirrup, they remain rigid and don't move away from you. When you rotate your foot or ankle, they move with you and support your foot. That's the only way I can describe it.
Some people didn't like the blue stripe at the base of the joint, but they've taken that off now and the rubber is a uniform black. They've also changed the "left" and "right" stamp to a tiny "L" and "R" directly under the stirrup leather.
Dislikes: The price! I seriously balked at the price tag on these things, but they are completely worth it.
I only regret not buying them sooner!
Quality: The quality of these stirrups appears to be excellent. I haven't had them long enough to see how they hold up to hard wear, but they look like they'll last me a long time.
Summary: If you have knee or ankle pain when you ride, I highly recommend these stirrups. Don't be afraid of the price! They are definitely worth $200, and no cheaper version compares.
