Purchase: I have a Tennessee Walker with a big motor. My wife has a Egyptian Arabian with a slight build but a "shelf" shoulder. We both felt our horses were impeded with standard western trail saddles.
After testing several gaited saddles; having conversations with gaited saddle owners; and considerable on-line research, we settled on Dixieland Gaited western saddle designs.
Likes: Most of our riding is in the Cascade Mountains and foothills. We ride 8-12 hours per week, much of the time at a running walk (or trot for the Arab). The horses are comfortable, and so are we. What more can you ask? We very happy with he Dixieland design and craftsmanship.
Dislikes:
Quality: Both saddles are western butterfly designs. The Walker saddle is a flex-tree, and the Arab saddle has a Steele Full Wither Equi-fit wood and fiberglass tree.
Both have Quality leather, ample hardware and good craftsmanship. Compared with a typical western "stock" saddle, Dixieland saddles are relatively lighter in weight.
