Category: Fly Control
Purchase: I initially decided to try Freedom 45 spot fly treatment because it is one of the few fly treatment that kills and repels ticks in addition to fly, gnats, mosquitoes, and other insects. I chose this one over other brands because it was a 12 week supply; the others were only six weeks, and with two horses, the more the better. With the increase in ticks, I don't want to risk my horses getting Lyme's disease. I bought it at Tractor Supply and paid $23.99 for six vials.
Likes: Freedom 45 is so easy to use! It works similar to a Frontline that you use for a dog or cat. The directions tell you how many CC's to put on each spot (2cc on poll, .5cc on each side of wither, 1cc on each side of flank, 1cc on back of knee/hock of each leg. My horses experienced instant relief! You only apply one vile every TWO weeks! It is waterproof, sweat proof, etc. No insects will come near them or you for the entire two weeks. Bathing with it on is not a problem; it still works great. The horses can be lathered with sweat, and still, no insects near them. The bugs may fly around them, but are somewhat confused as they won't land on them! My only suggestion is to also use a roll on around the eyes (I use the purple Absorbine roll on). I also really like the price. For twelve weeks of fly relief, $24 is pretty inexpensive. You can spend that on one bottle of fly spray that you burn through quickly because you have to keep applying it. This is one application, then nothing for two weeks.
Dislikes: The only thing that I don't like is that on my white horse, you can see where you apply the treatment (you'll see streaks). This only lasts for a day or two though.
Quality: You receive six small vials of liquid in a box. Each vile is clearly marked with cc measurements for easy application. I have not had any trouble with the construction or quality of it.
Summary: I recommend this for all riders who want to be insect and tick free!
