Purchase: I received this older saddle as a gift from a fellow horselover who had no use for it. It was an older model and was hardly used...I'd say it was worth $550 in it's current condition. They retail for over $2,000 NEW.
Likes: This saddle was NOT broken in and had minimal use. Very sturdy made (not surprising since it's made in Germany). Gorgeous pebbled leather on the seat and flap and looked like it would last for many decades more.
Dislikes: It was HARD as a rock and hurt my bum LOL. The channel between the panels was not wide enough to clear a horse's spine (bad)and just plain didn't like it (didn't even begin to think of putting it on my horse...not worth causing him discomfort).
Quality: Sturdy construction, will take A LOT of breaking in. Leather was nice, but dry to the touch and perked up when I put Passier Lederbalsam on it. Is of quality leather and built to last, but NOT made for comfort to horse or rider. It had a cut back pommel for wither clearance. The channel between the panels was too narrow to allow spinal clearance for the horse :(
Summary: Would NOT recommend this saddle to anyone. Don't know if this was a defect (that's why it was given away) or if that's just the way Kieffer made them back in the day...
