Purchase: I paid about $200 Cdn to replace my 8-year old Ariat Cobalt paddock boots. The Quantum Performer was the newest updated boot and I assumed it would be at least similar to my old Cobalts.
Likes: They look very nice visually. The rather narrow footbed and ankle part of the boot (much narrower than my old Ariats)seemed to give my feet good support around the foot and ankles. I really liked the way they supported my ankle.
Dislikes: The new footbed is the big negative for me. Similar to someone else who reviewed the Quantum Devon (the zipped version of the laced boots that I bought), I found the footbed very peculiar. There seemed to be an extension of the arch support from the inside and then right across to the outside of the footbed. This outside bump at the arch was forcing my ankle to collapse inwards. I should add that other people might not have this problem, but for one of my feet this footbed was a big problem.
I was also not too happy with the new tongue of these boots, as they folded over and squished up in a funny way when the laces were done up. The heels felt a bit higher than the older Cobalts, although from the outside they look the same - it might the insole that makes them feel higher.
Quality: I cannot comment on the construction and quality of the boot as I have not worn the boots outside of my living room, so they have not been put to the test.
Summary: I am going to be returning these Quantum Performer boots because the new and improved footbed just does not work for me. I have managed to locate 2 remaining pairs of the old Cobalt Performers (which I love!!!) at a local tack shop and I hope that they last me as long as my old Cobalts did.
