Manufacturer: Himalayan Horse
Model: Herbal Wound Spray
Category: Horse Health and Well Being
Purchase: I bought this a few weeks ago at a local tack shop when I was looking for something to quickly treat my TB mare's new case of mud-fever/scratches/greasy heel. The ingredients were simple and chemical free so I picked this one. I paid about $14.95 for a 16oz bottle.
Likes: This stuff was practically magical. I spent months fighting off mud-fever last cold season, it was endless and an intense trial of patience. This year I have been anxious to keep it at bay as much as possible. So when it set in early I panicked and was prepared to try anything. The ingredients are exceedingly simple and it works like a dream. Within a week and maybe 3-4 applications this has stopped the mud-fever in its tracks. Once the scabs could dry out and be removed, this spray kept them from coming back. After the scabs were gone the rest of the damaged skin was flaking away and left healthy skin underneath.
Dislikes: The scent is quite strong, but tolerable. My sensitive mare seems to dance around a little bit as this stuff settles into the irritated skin. But she fusses about any product or handling of her legs when mud-fever is bad, so that doesn't say much of anything against the product. It temporarily turns white markings bright yellow, but the tint is gone by the following day. The only problem I've had with it is that the spray nozzle wasn't very strong and broke in the middle of my 3rd application. I just replaced it with an extra that was laying around.
Quality: I was excited to find this product if only for the sheer simplicity of its ingredients (Chir Pine 20%, Himalayan Cedar 40%, Eucalyptus Oil 20%, and Turmeric 20%). Seems to dry within a few hours. Does not attract much if any dirt. Easy to use spray application. Couldn't ask for a better product.
Summary: I'm guessing this is a fairly new product as few online stores seem to carry it. I haven't checked the other tack shops in town yet. But I will absolutely continue using this. If it works half as well on cuts and scrapes as it does for mud-fever I'll certainly be stocking up on a couple bottles. I would absolutely love to be able to buy a larger size as well.
