Purchase: I'd ridden hunters and jumpers for a very long time and was coming back in to it from a small venture in to the world of cutting horses. I ended up searching and searching for a nice close contact saddle that fit my 14.3hh, daintily built Arabian mare. I came across this saddle, a 17.5" State line Tack Signature CC Saddle on CraigsList, brand new. I paid a small price of $300 for it, its girth, and its leathers. From the factory it was priced at $700. I got it home and I can't say I expected it to fit well, but...
Likes: All I can say is that I'm impressed with this saddle. I expected low quality leather, shabby girth, and stiff leathers. I've also found that in many close contact saddles with a flatter seat, they're hard and uncomfortable to sit in. The leather in this saddle was soft and supple on delivery, and after I'd oiled it a few times, it was perfect. The seat gave me balance and was very cushy to sit in. This saddle also really helped me with my position. The leather, the seat, the tree, the girth, the billets, it's all great quality. It's hard to find a saddle that fits my Arab as well as me, but this saddle does just the trick. It lays perfectly on her back, and sits me well, too!
Dislikes: The only thing that I don't like about this saddle is that it tends to get me in to a more "forward" seat than I prefer, but then again, I'm also a dressage rider.
Quality: The leather is soft and supple, the knee rolls are very supportive, the billets, leathers, and girth all hold up very well, and the tree is very strongly constructed.
Summary: All in all, this is a great saddle, for "A" rated shows on down to local shows, it looks and feels nice. The price does not reflect the quality.
