VSS (Omega 7 series)
Jumping Saddles
Manufacturer: Barnsby
Model: VSS (Omega 7 series)
Category: Jumping Saddles
Purchase: Searching for months and months for a COMFORTABLE saddle that is suitable for jumping- tried so many brands- too many to list- all were higher quality though. Read over and over about how comfortable the Omega GP was with "Dunopillo" padded seat as well as nothing but positive things about the brand in general. FINALLY found one to trial 90 minutes from my home and was thrilled to see it was the new VSS model with a square cantle/more open seat and more forward flap for jumping.
Likes: Firstoff, the construction is on par with saddles of much higher price- this one was $1495 heavily discounted as the store was no longer carrying the brand- orig. around $2,000. The seat/knee pad/panel leather is soft and supple- the ride was amazing- secure- comfortable twist, very comfy for the seatbones, easy to 'work' your horse- awesome cushy kneepads with nice chunky blocks for security- wider seat so your seatbones don't end up on the hard seams
Dislikes: Really only thing is the flaps are a bit stiff- can tell it is good quality thick leather and this is a brand new saddle so am sure they will supple up with use and oiling. Other than that- an armchair ride.
Although it is within Barnsby's GP line feel it is so useful for jumping with the more forward flap and knee wedge v. pencil block thus categorized it as such.
Quality: As stated above the saddle is put together with quality and attention to detail- love the front gusset, rear gusset, flocking is soft but not overly soft, wide gullet, knee pad has nifty sewing in just the right spot for an attractive appearance. This saddle seems built to last- and is at the lower end of their brand- can't imagine what the more expensive ones are like! ONLY off the shelf saddle that fit my horse perfectly.
Summary: Ok- if you like the Black Country Wexford (had one- awesome but caused back pain for some reason as all the BC's did for me) you will like this one. Also similar to Ideal Grandee with its square cantle, more open seat. Quality, comfort supreme for long long hours on trail (competitive trail) yet can pop over jumps in a lesson or on trail- leg stays put. No grinding seatbones and wide comfortable seat- impossible to find in most jump saddles. This saddle is not widely distributed in USA which is unfortunate so if you can find one grab it!!! I'm sold on Barnsby!
