Purchase: First let me say that I am hard on boots in that I wear them every day. I needed something that could hold up through the muddy winter, and I had sprained my ankle so was looking for something to support my foot while it healed. I heard great things about the Brit-Rider muck boot... it looked good, was made strong, well insulated and anti-bacteria for all the muck I'd be mucking.
;-)
I ordered my first pair and couldn't be happier. The support was so good I could actually hobble around in it with a sprained ankle. If I didn't have to, I wouldn't. But there was no one else to care for the animals and pastures. This fabulous boot fit so well and kept me so warm and comfy... and best of all it lasted two seasons before it started coming apart at the seams. That was good by my standards since I do work my shoes and boots hard.
I ordered my second pair and was happy to spend the money because I knew it would last me well. Well, guess what... it didn't come close. I don't know if the Muck Boot Co. decided to use cheaper materials that year or what but within two months my second pair had come apart at the seams and was severely cracking at the insteps. Water was leaking in and the boot was unsightly. Sorely disappointed, I decided it must've been a fluke and when my husband needed some muck boots, I ordered him the "middie" style that is not so tall. He liked them okay but needed more arch support than this boot offered so I started wearing his boots and while they did not come apart at the seams like the taller one did, it wasn't very long before I felt water in the bottoms... and I wore these boots under my pants and could feel the water coming in from the side seams.
Likes: Nice looking. Keeps feet VERY warm.
Dislikes: The material cracks and splits much sooner than expected.
Quality: The quality appears very good and in my first pair it was. The second and third pairs were very disappointing. They looked the same but did not perform near as well.
Summary: This boot started out to be the muck boot of my dreams. First pair lasted two years. Second and third pairs lasted a couple months before water leaked in and seams started splitting. If this is due to a company decision to use cheaper labor/materials then I hope they reverse that decision.
