Purchase: I searched and searched online for someone to build me a trail saddle to fit my foundation bred quarter horses and kept coming back to Jerry Shaw Saddlery in Texas because I liked his stirrup placement, rigging, leather quality and attention to detail. His saddles were beautiful in the images and he was helpful on the phone so I took the chance and spent what I thought was several hundred $$ less than many other custom saddles I'd purchased.
I liked the cutting saddle design with its deep pocket and forward stirrups and at a time when everyone else is making western saddles with stirrups under or behind you, this fit the bill for me... but wanted a saddle for trail riding and general arena use, not necessarily cutting, so Jerry gave me a different horn and customized the tree to fit a mold to my horse's back. He did a beautiful job... fits the horse very well, no dry spots or flinching from soreness. Saddle was built in a reasonable amount of time, too. Excellent customer service which never made me feel like I was pestering them with my many questions.
Likes: A very secure and comfortable saddle in which to ride and one I'm very proud to see on my horse for its beauty and durability.
Dislikes: I've sat here and thought about it and can't come up with a negative.
Quality: High quality supple but thick leather. A tree to custom fit my horse, beautiful leather stamping, quality hardware.
Summary: I would not hesitate to order a saddle from Jerry Shaw Custom Saddles in Texas.
