Purchase: I purchased my first one new from Down Under Horsemanship for $249.99 + 19.99 shipping. It is the felt pad with the neoprene bottom. My second one I purchased used on Craigslist for $160 and it is the leather one which retails for $299.99 at DUH. I purchased it to better pad my draft x mare who is often ridden by plus sized riders.
Likes: My saddles already fit well. I was just looking for better weight distribution and padding. When I first used it I could not believe the difference in her movement. She was so free in her shoulders and obviously happier in her saddle. I then tried it on my gelding with the same results and decided I wanted one for each of them.
Dislikes: They are cost prohibitive for many people. It is a shame that such a wonderful pad can't have a more affordable price point.
Quality: I haven't had them long enough to know how well they wear but they appear to be well made. My girlfriend has one that is fairly new (this spring)and she says the stitching is coming loose. I told her to call DUH and see what they'll do for her but so far she hasn't.
Summary: I love this pad and my horses really love it! I am sorry I waited so long to buy one because my horse's comfort is certainly worth the price especially if it turns out to a long lasting product. I have bought at least 3 $50 pads for her in the past 5 years.
