Purchase: I bought this used from a woman in my hunt for $875.
Likes: One of the larger horse message boards has a cult following of the "Ancient Passier" saddles, and rightly so.
This is without a doubt the most well-balanced saddle I have ever ridden in. It is beautifully made, seems to fit a wide variety of horses with its short tree points and cutback head. The one I have is a wide tree, and fits the rounder, mutton-withered guys as well as the more shark-finned.
Apparently the tree can be adjusted by a saddler, but I haven't had the need to.
I almost wasn't going to even try this saddle because the seat size was a bit larger than what I usually ride in, but it's so well-balanced that it doesn't matter and my husband and daughter can comfortably ride in it too. It really is a Wonder Saddle!
Dislikes: This is an older model, so it has plain flaps, which aren't particularly "fashionable" at the moment, but I can't say I care too much and it's only a matter of time before they become fashionable again, right? ;)
Quality: Gorgeous. OMG, I never thought German leather could be this soft. I'll be passing this saddle along to my kids and grand kids, I bet.
Built to last. Holds its value.
Summary: I *never* thought I'd be as enthusiastic about an older saddle as I am about this one. I love it more than the trendier brands I've tried, and it fits so many horses and so many people. If I had to have just one saddle in my barn it would be this one. LOVE IT!!!
