Manufacturer: Troxel (View all products by Troxel)

Model: Victory Show Helmet (View all Victory Show Helmet reviews)

Category: English Chaps/Boots/Helmets

Purchase: I bought this from a local tack shop for $60 for showing on my local schooling circuit. It fit ok in the tack shop.

Likes: It's functional, black and velvet. Only cost $60. The washable liner is nice. It looks nice.

Dislikes: IT'S UNCOMFORTABLE!! It says fits 7 1/8+ hat size (M/L). I wear a 7 in western hats, yet somehow this helmet is too small. How the heck? It also fits really weird. Like it's way too deep? I don't know what, but it sits way lower on my brow when level than it should. With my hair down, and not in a knot for showing, the visor is right at brow level, maybe one finger above at most. Heaven forbid I put my waist length hair in a knot at the back of my neck. The front of the helmet falls right into my eyes. The dial system is awful too. Way to tight, it makes the back of the helmet lower which forces my hair to sit lower, which makes it nearly impossible to look up and around to the next jump. Guess who's jumping blind!? (Yay for good horses!) Plus, even though it's too small, it looks enormous on me. How did Troxel manage that? It's heavy too. It's just strange. I've had Troxels before, and the dial system hasn't bothered me on the others.

Quality: It's built well like most Troxels. I've never fallen in it, so I can't tell you how it would hold up in one. Past Troxels have done a good job (obviously since I'm writing this). It looks just as snazzy as the more expensive helmets.

Summary: NEVER buying another one. EVER. So uncomfortable. Maybe it's my head, maybe it's this particular helmet. Either way, I'm not blowing $60 on another one. I'm going to be cheap and get a velvet cover for my Tipperary (which I love). I'd rather have a comfortable schooling helmet and cover, than a schooling and show helmet (that gives me awful headaches).
