Purchase: Nelson Service Reps Suck! Bought direct from Nelson Mfg. Paid $400 each for 3 of these units 8 years ago. One unit froze and the power never worked. Placed a garbage can over it to help keep from freezing. Other 2 units froze. Added heat tape. Added insulation on pipes etc... Finally did not freeze after many hours of my time. Try to get parts out of the 3 year warranty, good luck. They will not send you replacement parts unless you pay for the parts and shipping. Crap units. To small for horses head to drink. Freeze when working. Freeze when you add heat tape.
Likes: Stainless Steel, that is all that I like.
Dislikes: Bad design. Small for horses head. Freeze, and freeze again. Add heat tape and will freeze unless the bottom rim is sealed at least twice a year. If you plan on buying one, plan on adding heat tape to an area that only a childs arm can fit into. If you buy one of these, plan on taking it off the base it is mounted on and re-sealing. Try that in winter below zero. It will all freeze on you before you get it back together. Then have to thaw it out with a specially cut plastic barrel to hold in the heat. Crap, do not buy. Do not say I did not warn you all before dropping big money for this poorly designed unit.
Quality: Stainless Steel. Bad insulation. Bad electrical delivery. Bad 13 inch design for large horses.
Summary: WARNING: Do Not Buy! There are many many alternatives to this poorly designed product. Customer service rep today was quoting me from statements I made when I tried to open a warranty claim back 6 years ago that was never resolved. This unit never worked. I paid for 3 units and only used 2 for all this time. Customer service over the years have never done me any good and are glad to sell you parts. Be prepared to pay for your waterer and pay again for insulation tubes, and pay again for parts that burst when froze. If yo live in the south and think you still want to buy, that is your problem. Don't say I did not warn you either.
