Manufacturer: Dixieland Gaited Saddles
Model: Endurance Style Western Saddle with Horn
Category: Trail Saddles
Purchase: I ordered the saddle online from Dixieland Gaited Saddles in Lexington, Alabama. I bought it because I just recently started riding again after a few bad bucks, bolts, and falls and I thought that getting a quality saddle that I felt secure in might help me to get my confidence back. The saddle was $999, but I added a few extras such as a wide tree, wool felt lining, a breast collar, and a saddle pad which brought the total with shipping to $1403.
Likes: I absolutely LOVE everything about my new Dixieland Gaited Saddle!!!! This is my first "real saddle" as I've tried several cheap western saddles, several synthetic saddles, and a very expensive treeless saddle. NONE of them worked for me or my horse Comanche. Because I'm 45 and have severe arthritis in my hands, I was trying to avoid buying a heavy saddle, but after lots of trial and error I realized that I couldn't avoid it. My new saddle isn't too heavy (about 28 pounds) and I can lift it up on my 15 hand horse by myself if I swing it just right. It's definitely worth the effort for me and my horse. Comanche used to swish his tail, toss his head, and hollow out his back as soon as I saddled up. Not anymore! He moves along relaxed, with his ears forward, and a happy look on his face :) The most important thing is that I KNOW it fits my horse because of the saddle fitting system that is used by Dixieland Gaited Saddles. They sent me several saddle trees to try on my horse. I took lots of pictures as directed by the instructions on their website and e-mailed them to Cynthia Wright at Dixieland. She reviewed the pictures and recommended the tree that best fit my horse. I also know that it fits me because I measured myself too. Once I decided on the style, size, color, features, and options I wanted, they built the saddle on the tree that best fit my horse. Talk about a custom built saddle!! As far as looks and quality, it's the most beautiful saddle I've ever seen. The quality of the workmanship is amazing right down to the smallest detail and it's extremely comfortable. I especially love the deep pocket and the high cantle because it helps me to feel more secure in the saddle. It doesn't get any better than that! All of my friends have tried it and LOVED it. They couldn't believe that I got such an awesome saddle for such a reasonable price.
Dislikes: There is NOTHING that I don't like about this saddle. It's perfect!
Quality: My Dixieland Gaited Saddle is made of very high quality materials. I chose the black leather endurance style skirt with barbed wire tooling around the edges, a matching breast collar, and a wool felt saddle pad. The leather isn't stiff or squeaky at all. The seat is extremely comfortable and makes me feel secure because of the deep pocket and the 5" high cantle. It's comfortable to ride in and beautiful to look at. It's a true work of art in every sense of the word.
Summary: It's the most beautiful saddle I've ever seen, the quality of the workmanship is amazing right down to the smallest detail, and it's extremely comfortable. Cynthia Wright was friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, and easy to work with. She made my saddle buying experience fun and easy. Anybody looking for a new saddle needs to buy one from Cynthia at Dixieland Gaited Saddles!! You'll be glad you did!
