Manufacturer: Startrekk Dressage Saddle
Model: Dressage
Category: Dressage Saddles
Purchase: I imported this Saddle from Germany- through Reitsportschulte as I was unable to find a suitable treeless dressage saddle in Australia.
I have tried a variety of other treeless saddles available in Australia and wasn't happy with them. I paid Euro1200, excluding postage and import duties.
Likes: I firstly love the traditional look of the saddle. With a narrow twist unlike other treeless saddles it doesn't feel as if you are riding bareback. Rides like a traditional treed saddle. Very comfortable and secure to ride in.Materials and workmanship is excellent. The knee pads are medium in size, supportive, soft but not restrictive.
I feel balanced in the saddle, with an automatic sound position enabled by the stirrup position.
It has a mono-flap and Y girthing. Very easy and very quick to change the gullet sizes with interchangeable gullet sizes available. It's very secure on my barrel shaped pony as well as my large warmblood, doesn't slip. My horse is far happier and moves better in this saddle. It has generous flocked gussets.
Dislikes: Even though the gullet is interchangeable, the pommel isn't suitable for horses with a very high wither. I use risers to provide better wither clearance on the sides.
The gullet channel is of medium width and for those horses that require a very wide channel for spine clearance, it won't be suitable for them either.
Its a misconception to believe that just because it is treeless that it will fit any horse perfectly.
Quality: It has been very well constructed with good quality leather used. Its soft to ride in and doesn't need 'breaking in". The D ring screw that comes out when you change the gullet on the one side, came loose inside the saddle, and it became tricky to thread the D-ring back, but its easy enough to work out how to 'hook' the catch inside the saddle so that it fixes itself.
Summary: If it had a higher pommel and wider gullet width I would definitely continue using it. It is one of the nicest German saddles I've owned. And my horse prefers the treeless to the treed saddles I've had fitted to her.
