Purchase: I purchased this saddle from Stateline tack about 3 months ago for around $500. My gelding outgrew his beautiful cross country saddle, so I had to get one with a larger tree in a hurry.
Likes: This saddle is great for a beginner, with a nice deep seat. It is perfect for flat work, trail riding and jumping, as it has a nice secure feeling. This saddle fit me and my appendix quarter horse perfectly. He has very muscular shoulders, and he is able to really move out.
Dislikes: I do not like the "pebble texture" of the flaps, I feel that this hides a lower quality leather.
Quality: Overall, the saddle is well constructed, and the seat and knee rolls are very comfortable. The billet straps are were as stiff as cardboard and I really had to work at getting them supple.
Summary: I would recommend that you thoroughly clean the saddle with castile soap (to remove the "slippery" shine), oil it with a good quality saddle oil, and then, really work the "Saddle Food" (recommended by the manufacturer) into the leather . This takes a bit of time, but it is well worth it - makes the saddle much softer, and much more supple. If this saddle offered and upgrade to a better quality, smooth leather, I'd buy it in a heartbeat!
