Purchase: I bought this saddle on-line for about $120.00. It did not have the off-billet or girth straps, or stirrup hobbles.
Likes: The saddle is light, about 14 lbs. It has very pretty detailing on the dark oil leather pommel, jockeys and cantle. The black padded cordura skirts are similar to an Abetta cordura. It has quick-change blevin buckles with reinforced nylon stirrup "leathers". It has a narrow fiberglass tree, which I need for my hard-to-fit quarter pony.
Dislikes: The suede seat is worn smooth, but that happens to most suede seats. There is not very much padding in the seat. It does not have front D's for a breastcollar.
Quality: I'd compare this to an Abetta for overall quality and construction. It has 2.5" wide molded stirrups, and I added padded foot rests for comfort. It has a fiberglass tree and the underneath fleece is acceptable quality.
Summary: The leather will require more upkeep than a saddle that's entirely cordura, but I like the detailing on the leather. Overall, I'd say it was a good deal at the price I paid. I researched the Dr. J saddles prior to the purchase. They were made by Nash Saddlery for Dr. Jeffers online tack sales and new saddles sold for about $400.
