Purchase: I ordered this blanket out of desperation: I hadn't been able to find a turnout blanket that held up and didn't rub my horse, even after trying four different name brands. I learned that Saratoga did custom work, so contacted them and they designed a blanket to my specifications. I paid about $300 plus shipping for this custom blanket.
Likes: This is a superb blanket. First, they use 1000 denire cordura nylon - so much more durable than the polyester or polypropilene used now by so many "name" manufacturers.
Plus I was able to request that the shoulder gussets be placed further forward, closer to the front of the blanket. This eliminated the rubbing problem completely.
Saratoga also kindly sewed on d-rings so that I could attach a neck cover.
The blanket fits beautifully. It's light weight, yet very warm, and my horse can wear it in all but the bitterest windchills, and in that kind of weather, you can easily put a layer on beneath and still have fairly lightweight warmth. It drapes well, and after a few days, it molded to my horse's shape and now, it does not shift. This is the first blanket I've tried that stays in place. I love the generous cut in the chest which covers more of the horse, and the velcro which keeps it cozily in place. I also like that you have some nice choices in color combos.
Dislikes: The blanket comes with plastic "trigger" clips instead of conventional hardware clips, and while these make fastening the blanket's surcingles very very easy, it's not so easy for my rather arthritic fingers to unfasten them; you have to squeeze a bit hard - however, you do not need to take your gloves off to fasten and unfasten these straps and that's nice. I also wish it came with leg straps; it has d-rings for leg straps but you have to supply your own. I simply recycled a pair from one of my older blankets.
Quality: Superb. I expect this blanket to last many years.
Summary: I heartily recommend this blanket and this company; their customer service reps are also wonderful, knowledgable and helpful.
They will work with you to create the perfect blanket for your horse.
