Purchase: Looking for reasonably-priced field boots to be worn at lessons and shows, I purchased a pair of Mountain Horse Venice Zip Field Boots in a Dover Saddlery store in July 2010. I paid $200.00 for the boots.
Likes: I like just about everything! The boots have a sturdy, reliable zipper in the back, and an elastic panel runs alongside the zipper; this makes it easier to get the boots on during the break-in period, and also helps the boots develop a near-custom fit throughout the calf. The footbed is comfortable, and I have worn these boots all day long at several shows, and never, EVER gave my feet a second thought!
Dislikes: Like all tall boots, these need to be broken-in, so don't buy them the day before a show! The sales associate at Dover recommended wearing the boots with riding breeches and thin socks, and then walking around the house a few times a day for 15-20 minutes at a time. I followed this advice and had a nice, comfy pair of field boots in about 10-14 days. No fuss-no muss!!
Quality: The construction and quality of these boots is very good. I've worn them for several months in all sorts of weather, and the boots have held up beautifully. I go over them lightly after each wearing with a leather-wipe, and give them a thorough cleaning every month or so; the boots don't seem to need anything more than that!
Summary: If you're in the market for a pair of field boots and want lots of bang for your buck, take a look at the Mountain Horse Venice Zip Field Boot. You just might be pleasantly surprised!
