Purchase: I bought two of these pads from Long Riders Gear about six years ago. I paid about $90 per pad plus shipping. I bought the oversize with English wool to fit my ASC Solstice saddle. I used them for endurance rides and conditioning rides.
Likes: I used these pads for endurance riding over the past six years without incident. My horse never had a sore back, never had dry spots, and never had ruffled hair. These pads breathe incredibly well too. Bonus: They are low maintenance as well; machine wash, air dry, brush with a wire dog brush, done!
As a side note, I tried both the Fleeceworks Fieldhunter pad and the Mattes all purpose pad briefly. While they are both nice pads, their cotton topsides held sweat and moisture causing the pads to become wet and heavy. The Woolback pad never did that.
Dislikes: Umm, nothing I really dislike. I wish there were a color selection. Currently, it's just the natural wool color.
Also, I wish a high profile option had been available when I bought my pads. I've never had any trouble with rubbing on my mare's withers, but I wouldn't have to methodically tent the pad if it were already high profile.
Quality: They've held up well after six years of hard wear. No loose stitching, no rips or tears, just a functional pad.
Summary: They wear well, they breathe well and a great pad for the price. If they can live through endurance, they can live through anything. I would definitely buy again when these pads wear out. However, if available, I will buy the high profile option next time.
