Purchase: Bought this saddle new from Dover Saddlery 3 years ago, for just under $800 including the gullet kit.
Likes: Fits wide backed horses well, can change the gullet to fit most horses. Easy to clean, wipe down, no worries on mold etc. Suede padded seat & knee flap is comfy. Recessed stirrup bars do well to keep straps in comfortable under the leg during riding. Seat measures true to size if not a tad bigger. Plenty of length in billets, they are of good quality & will last a lifetime.
Dislikes: This saddle is hard to balance in. Feel very tipped forward, not much security for jumping. Due to the synthetic padding it is not a close contact feel. Too built up, feel perched on top of the horse. Too many tumbles out of this saddle over minor things.
Quality: Synthetic is what a consumer would expect. The gullet screws will work loose over time, have to replace as they get stripped. Not the easiest task to replace gullet, but it can be done by one person. Dust works in some of the underside material....very hard to get out. Noise on the synthetic flap while riding at times is annoying.
Summary: For $800 it is much wiser to put that money on a good leather saddle. The resale on this type is tough because of the synthetic material & the cost of the rest of the line....I cannot resell this saddle for more than $300, while it is in near new condition. Not a wise investment...can't recommend it for anyone.
