Purchase: I ordered this saddle through Kevin of Southern Trails Saddles online at www.southerntrailssaddle.com under the "Elite Series" button. I had never seen one of these saddles in person but the pictures and description told a story of quality. I had several exchanges via email with Kevin and eventually had the confidence to place the order sight unseen. It was risky, given earlier disappointments, but my gut said just do it! Price paid was $1595.

Dislikes: haha, you must be kidding! I am so in awe of this saddle that I almost hate to put it on my horse. It is a piece of art. But it is a SOLID working saddle. It can be used on the trail or in the arena. Secure and stout as a gymkhana saddle if desired. That's what I plan to do with it... EVERYTHING!
Quality: I've pretty much mentioned all that in my statements above. I live in California and no one, not a single person, out west has shown me a saddle of this caliber, at any price. I feel like I robbed a bank to get such a good saddle. I have been to a LOT of saddle shows, horse expos, tack stores and private makers. This saddle even puts the better ones I've seen to shame. Forever grateful I've found them through diligent searching online.
Summary: I have bought and resold quite a few saddles from well known self-described master saddle makers around the country. In the end I was always disappointed. Either the saddle did not fit the horse well (even with custom fitted expensive trees that take 6 months to get built), or the supposed top quality leather didn't measure up. Plus, I would wait for nearly a year to get the saddle. That made the disappointment all the more painful. THIS SADDLE puts ALL the other custom makers I tried to shame. For fully HALF the price and 1/10th the time to build, the work and quality far outshines the competition. I don't know how he does it... but I wish that everyone could have this work of comfortable beauty between them and their horse.
