Dressage Saddles

Manufacturer: Kieffer
Model: Aachen
Category: Dressage Saddles

Purchase: I purchased this saddle used on eBay for 400 including shipping and some fittings. It's a size 17M.

Likes: I don't know where to begin! My trainer recommended the saddle to me after she tried several types of saddles on my VERY sensitive horse. This is one of the very select few that caused her to move to her full potential. My horse has a high wither, uphill build, and a broader type back. Typical of most warmbloods. The saddle is so perfectly balanced. I have found wonderful harmony with my horse. This saddle makes my 3000 dollar prior saddle look bad. It's now collecting dust. I found I don't need the big knee rolls and super ultra deep seat. This saddle is superb. The second I sat it in I could feel that my center of balance was perfect. I can feel my horse so much better through this saddle too which has caused our lateral work to improve ten fold. It's really an incredible ride and if your horse is built like mine it will certainly thank you.

Dislikes: I have zero dislikes about this saddle.

Quality: The saddle is a 17 medium tree. It's approximately 20 years old. All seams are still tight. It still has the original billets which look great and are also tight. The flocking is wonderful however it's hard to say if it's been re-flocked. the leather is soft and supple and there are no cracks or creases or otherwise. Very few scratches at all which leads me to believe that this excellent leather does not scratch easily. All of my prior deep seated saddles were 17.5 to 18 trees. The 17 Kieffer fits like a glove due to medium deep seat. Just something to keep in mind.

Summary: My advice: If your horse is built like mine and you want to save some money but not sacrifice the quality of a high end saddle BUY IT. I truly feel this old Kieffer is made better and more balanced than my "today's style" high end saddle which will now collect dust.
