Purchase: I purchased my third set of Epics for my 7 yo mare. Originally, I used Epics on a Morgan for mountain riding. I have used a second Epics on my foxtrotter for a few years. One pair had lasted me without incident. So I decided to go with Epics again. I had voiced my love of these boots to many horse friends along the way. I ordered the third pair of boots from Valley Vet for about $65 ea plus shipping.
Likes: Relatively easy to put on once you have done it a few times. Cost effective way to protect your horses feet. Allows barefoot, natural hoof most of the time.
Dislikes: I noticed the first time I used the boots that they had gone to narrower velcro on the gaiter. I definitely did not feel as substantial when applying. The second time I used the boots the buckle broke mid ride. I contacted Easyboot and they told me I was just past warranty. When I explained the situation, they sent me a new buckle. They told me they were now making the boots in China and some of the materials had been changed. I voiced my preference for the wider velcro. As I was replacing the buckle, I also noted that the stitching was coming out around the heel. What the heck? I only used these twice and they were already more worn and damaged than the pair I had been using for 2 yrs. I spent more for the second pair, so though they are getting a better deal sending the work to China, they are not passing the savings along to the consumer and we are clearly getting an inferior product. If you have used Easyboot in the past, do not assume equivalent product today.
Quality: As described, the quality of the materials going into the current Easyboot Epic is cost-cutting for the company and very expensive for the horse owner. The reliability of the product has diminished considerably. Reliability is crucial in the Rocky Mountains!
Summary: I am so frustrated that I had found a product I loved and Easyboot sold out in favor of cheaper production. I would gladly pay more for the old, superior product that I could count on in the mountains.
