Likes: Epitomizes English style. A gorgeous bit. I am reviewing the kk Conrad single link B ring snaffle. Is similar to a flat, single link Boucher but much better fitting, more elegant, and obviously a joy to carry in the mouth.... my horse has told me so! Between this B-ring bit and the new Comfort Mouth port Pelham, I am set for jumping, riding equitation on the flat, and schooling middle level dressage (which I do for fun and education only). I do on occasion use a kk Conrad single joint D-ring if my horse is very fresh and I would like a bit more manual control in reserve if needed or if we are going for a "raw" ride with lots of conditioning and some galloping. I had in the past used a Sprenger loose ring to educate my horse up to middle level dressage prior to starting over fences. This B-ring is by far my gelding's favorite bit of the above choices.

Dislikes: Is nothing I would change.

Quality: All Aurgian construction, easy to clean and keep in excellent condition. Highest quality bit.

Summary: So many posts protesting that this B-ring....be it linked or single snaffle.... and flat boucher by HS work on poll pressure. Those are uneducated comments from people whom have not used one of these bits and I dare say are very in their horse's mouths in the double or a snaffle. I could see if someone locked their horse into a restricted, hollow, shortened headset breaking between cervical 2-4, and WITHOUT IMPULSION, that they could hold a damaged horse behind this bit with a fixed hand. But that is the part of the rider on a poorly conditioned or damaged horse...not the bit's natural doing. Also, do not consider this bit, as some do, for more "brakes". You have almost none in this bit. Let me try that again....ZERO MANUAL BRAKING by hand alone....to be clear. Again, I use my simple D-ring if I have a little much excited horse on a particular but rare day. This bit encourages highly refined action by both horse and rider. Is not to be used in the ways above or by riders looking to sell themselves and their horses short of real education with such things such as head setting and braking. Rider aids with the kk Conrad B-ring are used more similarly to a loose-ring than a full cheek, eggbutt, of D-ring. Obviously this fixed cheek and a loose-ring carry and function very differently, but rider aids are subtle and sensitive with the horse similarly with both. Is simply an elegant and beautiful bit and my horse is 100% in it from just after long rein warm-up until finishing for the day. He'd rather be on this bit than not and has the most desirable, stretched neck, naturally elevated, properly conditioned collection in it. I can hack out, long trot the road, jump, dressage work.... whatever he wants to do a day in this bit. A perfect 10 for the right horse with impulsion and desire to move forward in partnership with a well-educated, confident, compassionate rider. The appearance cannot be beat.
