Purchase: I bought this saddle used from a local tack shop. I was able to try it out for two weeks to make sure it was a good fit for both me and my horse.
Likes: I loved the long and slightly forward flaps. I have very long legs and tended to have my knee over the flap on most saddles I tried unless I went to a much longer seat size. The pencil roll is far forward so my legs have a great natural position in this saddle which for me means I don't have to roll my leg to keep my knee off the saddle!
Other saddles also had flaps that would get caught in my winter boots. This one has flaps long enough to avoid that. It works great for ground work and lower jumps.
The twist is narrow and my legs are in contact with the horse so it Is very comfortable to ride in.
Dislikes: I bought it used and whoever had it oiled it to oblivion!
It had a white creamy surface and I have had to wipe it down several times. At least the leather is still very soft though!
Quality: I called Stubben and found out that it is built on their famous spring tree and a quality built saddle! They told me it is old enough to drink (21 plus years old)! I never would have guessed it because the leather still looks like new!
I have been using it three times per week and it does not appear to show any wear or discoloration which I see along the leathers on many saddles.
The stirrup irons are recessed and it is one of the few saddles that don't cause bruises on the inside of my thighs.
Summary: I love this saddle and the generous tree seems to fit my horse well too. The wool flocking can be custom adjusted as well.
If you don't like a bulky saddle with lots of padding, this is the perfect saddle for you.
Stubben still custom makes this saddle ($ 2000+) but there are many on the resale market at reasonable prices. The quality is unsurpassed in my opinion!
