Purchase: I bought this saddle at my local tack shop for $1200, new. I had been struggling to find a saddle to fit my broad-shouldered, short-backed horse, that fit the rider comfortably as well. I thought I was going to have to go with a Circle Y Flex tree to get the right fit for my horse, but I had read some unfavorable reviews about the flexible trees.
Likes: Love just about everything. The tree fits my short-backed horses very well, and I've ridden some challenging terrain with no fit issues. The tree flares away from the horse's back to allow room for the shoulder and hip. Beautiful leather, good quality. Stitching is tight and even.Very comfortable for the rider, too. The cantle is quite high, but not as bothersome as I thought it might be. Twist is not too wide, especially considering the fact that I bought the wide tree. In-skirt rigging is not bulky. Very light weight for a western saddle. Rounded skirts with slots for optional flank cinch.
Dislikes: Being really picky, I wish the saddle had come with pre-turned fenders, larger stirrups and the 3-way adjustable rigging. Dee rings for the breast collar could have been set a little higher, but that may just be my horses' conformation.
Quality: See above. It is made by Martin for Cashel, and the Martin quality is evident. I imagine I'll be riding in this saddle for many, many years.
Summary: Great quality saddle, especially for the price. Multiple seat sizes, tree sizes, horn/no horn options mean this saddle could fit just about anyone's needs.
