Purchase: Purchased at my local feed store for $175. It came with the cleaning sponge. We already had a 5 Star pad that we loved, so when we added another western saddle to our tack room, we simply had to get another 5 Star pad!
Likes: These pads are so well made! 5 Star even customized mine with a cutout in the cinch area. The wear leathers are high quality oiled leather, very supple and stitched well. The pad is 100% wool, which conforms to the saddle and the horse's back after a ride or two. These pads wick sweat very well and help keep the saddle from shifting. The contoured top means the pad (and saddle) don't put pressure on my horse's wither area. Wool is not stiff or hard, but still substantial enough to protect the horse's back. Many different thicknesses are available. I bought the 3/4" for trail riding, even though 5 Star suggests the 7/8" for this purpose.
Dislikes: The price is a bit high, but with proper care (outlined in the tags), the pad should last many years.
Quality: Very well made, high quality materials and good, tight stitching. Wool is pressed tightly and not getting fuzzy, but the pad is not "stiff" like some competitors.
Summary: Great pad. Pricey, but worth it. My saddle fits well, and this pad only makes it better.
