Dressage Saddles

Manufacturer: Schleese Saddlery
Model: The Wave
Category: Dressage Saddles

Purchase: I bought my saddle from my horse trainer/riding instructor shortly after the purchase of my Warmblood gelding. She bought it new a few years ago for around $5300, I bought it from her for $3500.

Likes: This saddle is VERY comfortable to me and the horse. I noticed an immediate difference in his level of suppleness through his topline once I changed the saddle. It's secure and durable, yet light. The fitter was knowledgeable and patient with my horse's terrible manners.. :) I'm very pleased with the wool flocking instead of foam. Foam can break down over time, wool does not! The narrow twist puts your leg in the right position right away. I'm pleased with the fitter's work. The saddle can get adjusted every year if you book them (It costs less the more people join in with their Schleese saddles!) so as the horse's muscle level changes, so can the saddle! Lots of thought must have been put into that! I have long legs so the saddle fitter offered to move the stirrup bars back a bit to put my seat and leg in a better position.

Dislikes: My horse has a light grey coat- when he's shedding, you can see it on my saddle in front of the thigh blocks/knee roll under the flap. It's hard to get hair out of that area. The leather rubs easily. There's a large rub mark under my stirrup. I do believe that if my trainer kept the saddle oiled and maintained, this wouldn't have happened, but she doesn't have time to do that. If I did get the stirrup bars moved, it would take over a month to ship to the shop, get adjusted, and come back. Not too practical in the horse world.

Quality: The tree is built nicely, it is very comfortable, the billets are good quality, the flocking is great. My horse can move freely in it. He has broad shoulders and lots of back movement so it would have been hard to find a good fitting saddle.

Summary: Other than the leather rubbing, it is a beautiful and well crafted saddle. You and your horse will love it. If you maintain it, it will last forever.
