Purchase: I bought this halter for around 100 dollars from smart pack as a 'nice' barn halter for my mare.
Likes: Looks fancy, really raised up which makes for a great look, and the leather is really soft. It fit my horse great and just coming out of the box it was beautiful. All the brass fittings were solid and it presents a very nice picture overall.
Dislikes: This halter requires more work to keep looking nice than any other piece of tack I own, which includes an Antares saddle that scratches if you just look at it funny. I like cleaning tack, but its almost ridiculous how this halter gets these weird rub marks on it, as well as shiny marks from the brass. I have to clean it almost everyday (in the sink with the water running, it gets extremely dirty) and than coat it in Passier which gets rid of the rub marks, for now. But when I put it back on my horses stall after its cleaned, I cant deny it looks lovely.
Quality: Its beautiful, I just wish it would stay that way! Also the fancy stitching is beginning to come out after only a couple months of use.
Summary: While its a gorgeous halter coming out of the box, this halter is impossible to keep looking good. For this price a halter should be more durable without getting rub marks. I will keep this one (and continue to clean it!) but I plan on getting a new leather halter that I can use for fancy occasions as this one is getting rubbed to pieces and my horse is not hard on tack at all. Really wished it had stood up, I wanted to give it a good review. If other welfleet items are like this, I would avoid them. Im giving it a 2 because its a halter and it 'works', its just not the quality that you would expect in that price range.
