Ride About Barcoo Poley
Trail Saddles
Manufacturer: Kates
Model: Ride About Barcoo Poley
Category: Trail Saddles
Purchase: I bought this saddle online on Kates Saddle Supply for about $200 on clearance. The Barcoos were on clearance because they received a shipment that had hogprint leather instead of the advertised tooling.
I had been given an Aussie style saddle and although it was very comfortable for me and my horse, it was one of those bad quality mark-offs and it was falling apart fast. I wanted another Aussie style, but wanted a fleece panel for my wide backed horse and better quality.
Likes: I like all the options you can choose from to customize the saddle and being able to send in a wither tracing.
It's very secure with the deep seat, high cantle and poleys. I love the quality feel to this saddle.
It's the most comfortable saddle I've ridden in and looks to fit my horse well, and I have not received any complaints from my mare (she's really fussy about saddle fit).
This saddle has a better quality feel and look to it and has a narrower twist (more comfortable) than the selection of Aussie style saddles my friend has (she has many, from bad mark-offs to good quality brand name Aussie saddles).
I like all the rings to attach extra fittings and saddle bags to and the flexible stirrup leathers do not aggravate my bad knee.
I believe it will serve me well for many years of trail riding.
Dislikes: They do not come with standard leather stirrup wraps like most other Aussie style saddles, but you can buy fleece or neoprene wraps separately.
Quality: This saddle is NOT the cheap, "made in India" cardboard leather, but good quality, supple leather. This saddle is very well made and looks it, even without the regular tooling. The stitching is good, the rings and rivets are secure.
Kates warranty on the tree and saddle fittings is much better than what Down Under offers.
Summary: This saddle is very well worth the normal, non-clearance price. If you want a comfortable trail blaze'n saddle, I highly recommend the Barcoo.
