Lovett & Ricketts
Elan 16 " Buffalo - Wide Tree
Close Contact Saddles
Manufacturer: Lovett & Ricketts
Model: Elan 16 " Buffalo - Wide Tree
Category: Close Contact Saddles
Purchase: This saddle was acquired used from Lovett & Ricketts also known as The Arabian Saddle Company. I paid $1,000.00 for it used. The stamp indicates it is 3 years old and very well taken care of. I had tried many other brands of saddles and was unable to find the correct fit for my 8 year old daughter and her half arabian horse.
Likes: This saddle fits like a glove. It works perfectly on my daughter's half arabian, half saddlebred horse with a thinline pad. Now that she is building muscle, the thinline has become unnecessary. The seat size is 16" and is perfect for my 8 year old daughter with plenty of growing room without looking too big. I'm 5'3", 125 lbs and can also school in this saddle without looking or feeling too large in it. The Buffalo leather is amazing. Very soft and a dream to ride in. You have a good close contact with your horse and the knee blocks are velcro so you can move them to suit each rider. So far it has fit every horse I have put it on. It is wool flocked which is rare it seems in the close contact world. We have used it on sport ponies, Thourghbreds, Fresian sport horses and of course Arabians, both full and half.
Dislikes: There is nothing I dislike about this saddle. In fact I would love to find another in a 16 1/2" for myself.
Quality: The flaps are of buffalo leather and the seat is calf skin. There are no real differences in how you care for the buffalo, clean with soap and lightly oil. Mine had been oiled a bit too much it seemed so I used dove soap (as directed by L&R) several times to clean it then put a light coat of oil (Effax Combi) to condition it. The 2 combined leathers give a great grip without being sticky.
Summary: Bottom line I cannot say enough good about this little saddle. They are $2,500.00 new and worth every penny if you can swing it. If not scour the internet for them, they are out there but very tough to find.
