Purchase: I bought this online from Best Friend Equine for $69.95 plus shipping. I had come across forums of people chatting about these bareback pads and praising them HIGHLY. I have just about given up on tree'd saddles and have gone through so MANY that have not fit my horses right :( This bareback pad was my only hope of riding my horses at all. I needed a bareback pad that didn't slip and provided excellent padding for my crotch/bum...most importantly, comfort for my horses while I ride them!
Likes: This pad was ALL THAT everyone said it was! EXCELLENT EXCELLENT EXCELLENT pad!! Fits both of my horses with the same cinch (adjustable billets). I ride a baroque 16.3 warmblood and a 14.3 chunky Arabian. Works swell on both! My horses LOVE it! They are relaxed, raise their backs and enjoy our rides MUCH MUCH more!
Dislikes: There is NOTHING I dislike about this pad!
Quality: Gorgeous lush suede with a subtle "cradle" like seat. The one I picked was a cocoa brown. Very nice. Has a pocket on each side towards back corner of pad where you can put goodies, water bottle. Comes with a plastic water bottle for on the trail. Has nice grippy waffle neoprene on the bottom that grips and STAYS PUT on the horse. Has nylon billets with real suede underneath that touches the horse (comfort). Also comes with a waffle neoprene grippy cinch that will adjust to almost any horse with the pad. You can buy girth extenders too that go with the Best Friend Equine bareback pads. I did just in case. Very good quality and I've been riding in it for 3 months and have NO problems with it. Easy to clean! Just hose off and hang dry!
Summary: HIGHLY recommend this saddle. I've ridden on this bareback through spooks and have stayed on. Of course, it depends upon your comfort level (relaxing response during a spook) and the temperament of your horse. Helps with balance. I find that I ride BETTER with this bareback pad than I do in a saddle! Who'd thought?! I don't think I'll go back to riding in a saddle..horses don't like them and I get too dependent on saddles for my balance. This pad IS IT!
